Husband and Wife
Ours is a story that started with love
Ours is a story that began like any movie
the courting
the falling in love
leading finally to a legal pact
to be together forever,
at least in this lifetime.
We celebrate our thirteen years
years of being together
as husband and wife
but it sure is a ride
It’s a hell of a ride
a bumpy ride to be sure
The ups and the downs
the highs and the lows
the whirlwind and the calm.
The lowest of low
can turn you into a devil
love can manifest into hate
trust can turn to betrayal
the ground loses its gravity
security fades to uncertainty.
But I learn to let go
I learn not to hold on
to anger, hurt and pain
let go to embrace
a new day as it comes
the movement that happens
can turn hate and sorrow
into something new.
Don’t be fooled by things you see
of lovers holding hand in prime
of lovers painted in a rubicund picture
for all, it is a different story
yours and mine, different too.
Sometimes we are two different people
sometimes we are one and the same
sometimes things are grim
sometimes things are gay
but it is ok to take each day
as it comes, so it goes.
